This Antonio Berardi frock was just named dress of the year by Bath’s Fashion Museum in the UK.

The Dress of the Year event celebrates “cutting edge design”, with previous winners including Mary Quant, Jean Muir, John Galliano and Versace.
This year’s design has been chosen by Lucy Yeomans, editor of the glossy fashion magazine Harper’s Bazaar.

I have to agree, this dress is a stunner. Although, something about it reminds me of a tuxedo t-shirt.

Me and @chelsa last night at the Digital Divas party.
After obsessing over wardrobe choices yesterday, I went with the fuzzy PinkyOtto dress after all. Thanks for breaking the tie, dudes. Crisis averted.
On another note, I strongly think there should be more black-and-white event photography. It’s so timeless, I mean, we could just as easliy have been at Studio 54, twitter-handle necklaces notwithstanding.

And the winner of the Fled Flare contest is… ladamoxie!
Thanks for the helpful comments Ms. Moxie, and be sure to keep us posted on what you pick out. And if you ever get sick of that Prada watch you are sporting, well, you know where to find us.
Thanks again Fred Flare, we love ya.

For the Spring Summer 2010 the Maison Martin Margiela design team continued to work on the Artisanal collection of re-purposed object’s come Haute Couture. However, in October of 2009, Margiela stakeholder Renzo Rosso finally came clean on Margiela’s whereabouts. “Martin has not been there for a long time. He is here, but not here. We have a new, fresh design team on board. We are focusing on young, realistic energy for the future; this is really Margiela for the year 2015.”

Unfortunately, it was not 2015. Re-purposed vintage evening wear was meek, at best an attempt to breathe life into a house that has quite frankly lost their “raison d’etre”. The design team totally missed it; instead trying to resurrect what once was. They should have simply scraped Artisanal and moved onwards to something new and innovative, trying harder to create the out-of-this world couture Maison is known for. Instead it was lifeless, trashy, and dull.

“Neon Baroque” was the term used to describe Karl Lagerfeld’s Chanel Haute Couture Spring Summer 2010. Although not one of Karl’s strongest collections, the message was clear: Pastels are here to stay!

Stripping himself of the the House of Chanel’s iconic black-and-white, Lagerfeld gave himself  a challenge. The show was born around the concept of, “Electronic flashes I get in my head” he told the Associated Press Television News. “I saw it in a dream and I made sketches … at five o’clock in the morning.”

Overall the collection was very dreamy and super romantic. Lot’s of Grecian one shoulder draping, baby doll dresses in frothy hues, and the classic Chanel tweed suit in an array of soft sea foam’s and grey’s. The metallic accessories added “Chanel-of-the-future” vibe to the whole romantic, feminine feel of the show. Tres Chic!

Armani Prive

For his Armani Prive Spring/Summer 2010 presentation, Mr. Armani found himself howling at the moon. Literally. “It’s about the moon,” he explains, “I always need a hook to get into a collection, and that was it - thinking about something romantic and dreamy, far away from our everyday life. Something less harsh.”

And less harsh it was. Soft and uber feminine,  and with an abundance of pastels used in new and innovative ways. The reference to all things lunar came to life with the usage of paillettes, luminescent fabrics used in a way to mimic the moon’s surface, as well as peplums curved so slightly as to resemble a half moon.

And then there was the evening wear. Armani’s focal point; his trademark, if you will. It consisted of a sea of paillettes- long, flowing gowns in interesting, lunar-like cuts, and more gowns made out of what appeared to be a bubble wrap like textile.

Benissimo!

I’m really torn on these ads. I’m all for youthful rebellion and reckless behavior, but stupidity? It’s just so stupid.

Christian Dior Haute Couture SS 2010

Equestrians? Charles James? Romanticism? Whips? Plethora of Colors? 13 year old fashion blogger Tavi? This is just a sampling of what has been flying around the virtual fashion world this morning in regard to John Galliano’s Spring Summer 2010 Haute Couture presentation for the House of Dior.

The photos are officially out and many people are citing Galliano’s work as being boring and repetitive. After all, his latest work was not only inspired an overdose of equestrian-ism, but also the Gibson Girl and Charles James, the infamous designer who’s work virtually remained the same season after season save for the choice of fabric or the setting of a sleeve.

Although many will beg to differ, there is something equally genius in doing the same thing season after season with slight adaptations. It forces the designer to see what has previously been done in a whole new light. Is it new and innovative? Certainly not, but in times of doom, gloom, and desperation it is marvelous to see color. And lot’s of it. Deep plums, warm cocoas, spicy reds, hunting pink, rich raspberrys, petrol blue, lilac, olive green, luscious tangerine, and classic English checks in true Dior fashion.

Delicate floral applique cocktails dresses, jewel encrusted bustiers, riding jacket’s done in true New Look fashion, and an endless array of evening wear to suite any palette.

Beautiful shirt waisted bodices, halter neck frocks, and an interpretation of Dior’s infamous Junon dress all added to the magnificence that is Dior. And to top it off all off, in true Galliano fashion, he proceeded to trot down the aisles of 30 Avenue Montaigne, decked out in equestrian garb, planting a kiss on Ms. Karlie Kloss’s hand. Magnifique!
