Christian Dior Haute Couture SS 2010
Equestrians? Charles James? Romanticism? Whips? Plethora of Colors? 13 year old fashion blogger Tavi? This is just a sampling of what has been flying around the virtual fashion world this morning in regard to John Galliano’s Spring Summer 2010 Haute Couture presentation for the House of Dior.
The photos are officially out and many people are citing Galliano’s work as being boring and repetitive. After all, his latest work was not only inspired an overdose of equestrian-ism, but also the Gibson Girl and Charles James, the infamous designer who’s work virtually remained the same season after season save for the choice of fabric or the setting of a sleeve.
Although many will beg to differ, there is something equally genius in doing the same thing season after season with slight adaptations. It forces the designer to see what has previously been done in a whole new light. Is it new and innovative? Certainly not, but in times of doom, gloom, and desperation it is marvelous to see color. And lot’s of it. Deep plums, warm cocoas, spicy reds, hunting pink, rich raspberrys, petrol blue, lilac, olive green, luscious tangerine, and classic English checks in true Dior fashion.
Delicate floral applique cocktails dresses, jewel encrusted bustiers, riding jacket’s done in true New Look fashion, and an endless array of evening wear to suite any palette.
Beautiful shirt waisted bodices, halter neck frocks, and an interpretation of Dior’s infamous Junon dress all added to the magnificence that is Dior. And to top it off all off, in true Galliano fashion, he proceeded to trot down the aisles of 30 Avenue Montaigne, decked out in equestrian garb, planting a kiss on Ms. Karlie Kloss’s hand. Magnifique!
