    Designer Profile: Lamija Suljevic

Lamija Suljevic’s work is full of life and utter beauty. She began her training at age 11 when her mother taught her to knit, sparking an interest in crochet that has come to be a hallmark of her designs. Suljevic cultivated this interest and became a fashion design student focusing on pattern making and tailoring.

Fabric also plays a critical role in her designs; if the appropriate fabric can’t be found, the dress is altered or removed from the collection. For Fall 2010, Suljevic experimented with tiny waists, high bust lines, and extreme shapes which dramatically redefine the wearer’s body.

Born in Bosnia but raised in Sweden,  Suljevic used fashion as a way to express her childhood of fleeing a war torn Bosnia. Her work is the story of everything she lost as a child, whether it be the genetic makeup of her clothing or a tiny detail like a label. As she begins to tell her story through her work, we will eagerly wait for the next chapter.
